By The World Forgot

A woman desperately searches through memories.

‘By The World Forgot’ uses non-linear experimental techniques to unravel themes of memory, grief, and longing.

'By The World Forgot' is an experimental film made for an assignment in my first semester of film school. I wrote, directed, and starred in the film with help from three production assistants.

Many of the overlaying techniques used are practical; I used my great uncle’s slide projector from the 1960s to project his photographs onto white walls and through transparent curtains. The words were typed with a 1950s typewriter.

The title is taken from Alexander Pope’s poem Eloisa to Abelard:

“How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd;”
